Democrats Racial Hypocrisy Part 2

Part 1

And the answer to the question that ended Racial Hypocrisy Part 1; to which political party did the founders of the Klu Klux Klan belong?

Yes, hard to believe, The Democratic Party.

Because of the barriers set up in the South to keep the newly freed slaves from voting, the Republicans in Congress passed the 15th Amendment to the Constitution in 1870. “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

Democrats fought passage tooth and nail. In fact, the driving force behind the formation of the Klu Klux Klan was to suppress the black vote.

“Reconstruction” in the South ended when the Republicans passed the “Civil Rights Act of 1875.”

After Reconstruction the Democrats took back control of the state governments in the South, effectively relegating blacks to second-class citizenship.

The following is a list of some of the famous politicians from the South who did their best to suppress the black Americans down south. Needless to say, all were Democrats.

Ben Tillman – Senator and Governor of South Carolina – in the 1870’s was involved in guerilla warfare against Blacks and the Republicans

James F. Byrnes – Congressman from South Carolina. One of Byrne’s claims to fame was his virulent defense of “lynching”. Another was his vow to “abolish” public education if schools were integrated.

Eugene Talmadge – Governor of Georgia –Along with his public advocacy of white suppression of blacks, Talmadge bragged on the campaign trail of beating a black man for eating an apple out of the same bag as a white woman.

Richard Russell – Senator from Georgia elected in 1932. In a letter to Talmadage” Russell wrote, “I am willing to go as far and make as great a sacrifice to preserve and insure white supremacy in the social, economic and political life of our state as any man who lives within her borders.”

Russell staunchly defended Jim Crow laws, and separate but equal laws into the 1970’s.

Russell’s most famous protégé was Lyndon Baines Johnson (whose record on civil rights prior to becoming President was shameful). Russell’s legacy lives on; the Russell Senate Office Building is named after this racist Democrat.

James Vardman – Governor of Mississippi. In the late 1800’s Vardman was a leading voice for white supremacy in the South. He publically castigated President Theodore Roosevelt (Republican) for having dinner at the White House with Booker T. Washington. Vardman was incredulous that Roosevelt had taken; “this n***** bastard into his home…..entertained him on terms of social equality.”

For years the Republican Party has been willing to take it on the chin when it comes to the issue of race.
Well no more. It is high time for the Republicans and Tea Partiers to fight back.

Lets take a look at the history of the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party Platform – Resolved June 18, 1860

“Inasmuch as difference of opinion exists in the Democratic party as to the nature and extent of the powers of a Territorial Legislature, and as to the powers and duties of Congress, under the Constitution of the United States, over the institution of slavery within the Territories,”

“Resolved, That the enactments of the State Legislatures to defeat the faithful execution of the Fugitive Slave Law, are hostile in character, subversive of the Constitution, and revolutionary in their effect.”

In other words the Democrats wanted slavery to be allowed to continue.

And the Democrats Platform in 1864 contained this gem:

“Resolved, That this convention does explicitly declare, as the sense of the American people, that after four years of failure to restore the Union by the experiment of war, during which, under the pretense of a military necessity of war-power higher than the Constitution, the Constitution itself has been disregarded in every part, and public liberty and private right alike trodden down, and the material prosperity of the country essentially impaired, justice, humanity, liberty, and the public welfare demand that immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities, with a view of an ultimate convention of the States, or otherpeaceable means, to the end that, at the earliest practicable moment, peace may be restored on the basis of the Federal Union of the States.”

In 1864 as the momentum began to swing in favor of the Union and Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation began to take hold, the Democrats wanted to …… surrender (some things never change).

After Lincoln’s assassination Vice President Andrew Johnson, a Democrat became President. The reason Johnson was chosen as to be Lincoln’s running mate was to foster an “image of bi-partisanship.” Hmm, where have I heard this before?

During Re-Construction President Johnson, tried hard to return the white supremacist to their accustomed position of dominance in the South. The objective was to keep blacks in political and economic servitude to their former masters.

The result of Johnson efforts was impeachment by the Republicans. Johnson escaped being removed from office by one vote in the Senate. The rest of Johnson’s term resulted in gridlock. With the government in gridlock, slow but sure progress was made by the former slaves. This progress was only halted once the Government gridlock ended, and the Democratic Party took control of the South.

During the rest of the 1800’s with the South solidly in the hands of the Democrats, all sorts of schemes and ruses where used in an attempt to control the black population.

Schemes and ruses such as the poll tax, literacy tests and Jim Crow laws were the standard tools used by the Democrats. And let’s not forget the Ku Klux Klan founded in Franklin Tennessee shortly after the end of the Civil War.

Pop Quiz! Anyone care to take a guess at what political Party the founding members of the Klan belonged to?

Party Bosses not Inviting Spadea to Convention to Thwart Open and Fair Election Process

This really makes me sick! Its something I see the Democrats doing not Republicans.

If you don't know Bill Spadea is running in NJs Legislative District 16 in a Special Election to fill n open seat. Thanks to the gerrymandered Legislative map the district is a safe Republican seat, so the party bosses want it for them selfs. And they will stop at nothing to do so!

Princeton, NJ (January 11, 2012) - Bill Spadea did not receive an invitation to the upcoming convention being held in Hillsborough on January 19th.  In an attempt to block Spadea, who has dozens of Somerset County Committee Members already pledged to vote for him, Somerset County Chair, Al Gaburo refuses to meet, return phone calls, or acknowledge that Spadea is a filed candidate.

Somerset's Gaburo along with Hunterdon Chair Henry Kuhl, fearing that Spadea might actually win the convention - especially if the vote goes to a second ballot - are planning to meet this weekend to plot a way to deny the delegates a second ballot opportunity by adopting rules in secret to hand the seat to Simon even without her gaining a majority of the votes.  "We're very disappointed that the discussion of rules, time and location are taking place behind closed doors.  We're going to force the discussion to take place in the light of day.  Nobody should be scared of an open, transparent process, "stated Spadea campaign counsel Charlie Spies.  "We'll be reaching out to the NJGOP and the Secretary of State, Kim Guadagno, to ensure that the election is conducted fairly, legally, and in a transparent manner."

 "The bosses have resorted to trying to manipulate the rules because their candidate is so weak.  Simon, at this time, has no filing on record with ELEC, hasn't reported raising any funds, and has refused to participate in a public discussion of the issues.  She's also been plagued with issues surrounding her biography, positions, and affiliation with groups directly opposed to Governor Christie's agenda like the NJ Women's Political Caucus whose main beneficiaries are Democratic candidates.  Without any recorded contributions to her campaign so far, it makes you wonder how she is paying for the activity," said Spadea manager Leigh-Ann Bellew. "This is just another example of how the insider bosses think they're above the rules."

Spadea has knocked on more than 120 doors of County Committee members and is earning considerable support among Republicans who are disgusted with the back room, strong-arm tactics.  Several members left a Hillsborough GOP meeting earlier this week, and called Bill Spadea personally to pledge their support for him after being upset with the negative attacks on Spadea's character and integrity.  

Sarah Pallone's EPA at work destroying the dreams of the middle class

You save your money for years and years, you buy a small piece of land next to other homes overlooking a lake, you get all of the permits and sign offs you need from local and county officials, and you start construction.

Shortly after work starts on your small dream house a person comes with a clipboard and the letters “EPA” on their shirt and they tell you "you can't build here" puzzled by this you ask why in response the EPA official tells you "you're building in a wetland" when you ask for proof the EPA official gives you a map of the wetland boundary and your property. By looking at the map you discover that your property isn't in the wetland at all.

After discovering you have done nothing wrong, but you are still ordered to stop building your dream house because of the EPA. You send multiple certified letters to the EPA which would then be directed to Sarah Pallone who works in the EPA's department of Intergovernmental Relations who is in charge of the relationship with local, county, and state governments and organizations. After 7 months you finally get a response but it's not the response you were hoping for.

 No this is not a fictional story this was and is the reality that an Idaho couple is going through, and it has splashed on to the national stage.

"In 2005, Michael and Chantell Sackett were working toward what many American families work toward, their own home on their own land, until the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) halted their plans by declaring it a “wetland.”
On Monday, Jan. 9, the Sacketts and their attorneys will ask the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court to not only restore the right to use their own land – but to break the absolute power the EPA has over protected wetlands." - CNS NEWS

Several members of the Supreme Court criticized the EPA on Monday for heavy-handed enforcement of rules affecting homeowners after the government told an Idaho couple they can’t challenge an order declaring their future home site a “protected wetlands.”

Justice Antonin Scalia assailed the “high-handedness” of the environmental agency when dealing with private property, and Justice Samuel Alito described some of the EPA’s actions as “outrageous,“ arguing that most people would say ”this kind of thing can’t happen in the United States.”

Speaking of “putting Americans back to work” - how about that $1.6 MILLION from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that is being spent *wisely* in Pallone’s home town, and mine, the Great City of Long Branch, NJ USA by the Long Branch Housing Authority??

$1.6 MILLION to “create” 3 jobs. Surely, those three people are REALLY happy to have received $533,333/each. I should have applied for that job….

In the context of “putting Americans back to work” - good job on that “Gamecraft bumper pool table” for $411, the one Made in China. At least a few Americans worked as port workers importing them from a ship and a truck driver bringing the table to NJ. I surely hope to pay more taxes next year so that more people, like me, can have a pool table, and plus I can see why the housing authority needs a pool table, doesn’t everyone have one these days?

I also see the benefit of the HOUSING AUTHORITY spending $879 on “Script Copy, playbills, flyers, etc.” Sadly, I must have missed the performance, I guess the Housing Authority is in the entertainment business too?

The $936 “Computer upgrade” seems reasonable, and I can see how the housing authority might need that. But maybe next time I can be notified of the other technology work being done so that I can bid on the $1,035 “A/V and wire installation”, which is followed by a $5,300 “Sound & video system” or maybe it’s the $8,586 for “labor/IT/Cable/KT” I should bid on. There is also a $11,538 “new sound & video system”, so maybe that’s two sound systems, one for $5,300 and a second for $11,538? Or was the first $5,300 system just not good enough? Either way, I see the value, and how it puts Americans to work, to have $16,000 tied up in a sound system, at the Housing Authority.

And surely, the $11,150 “Computer upgrade - Dell laptop w/docking station” ; must be one heck of a laptop because even those nice Mac Book Pros are $2500 or so. So again, I hope to pay enough taxes this year to find out what a $11,000 laptop looks like, or why a housing authority needs such a machine since as a Software Engineer, a $900 laptop works great for me.

I do also suppose that the $14,608 “network upgrade/install wireless access” must be required to use that $11,000 laptop.

Of course, with an $11,000 laptop and $14,000 wireless network, the $11,957 “Server/CCTV Upgrade” and then $14,821 “cctv security cameras” to go with the $299,507 “CCTV equipment for Seaview Manor/Bucky James ” that immediately needed a $14,210 “CCTV security system upgrade” makes sense, especially with the murder over there and all.

And all of the spending of *my* tax money at the housing authority is doing great for my own private property values too, I mean, the value has decreased year after year since I purchased! I bet if we can keep “putting Americans back to work” at this rate, my home will be worth about $15 in no time…..(that you can see here)

… but then this is the same Housing Authority property that we dumped $10million or so into a few years ago (http://atl.gmnews.com/news/2006-06-01/Front_page/009.html)… for 40 units… and again, I just have to think that here in the Great City of Long Branch, NJ USA, 40 houses, must bigger and nicer, could have been purchased for well under $250,000 each.

I’d mention the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money spent in Long Branch on the sidewalks for Bath Ave but at the last city council meeting, a few dozen residents were quite unhappy with the lack of quality in the result.

Come to think of it…. the “American recovery” doesn’t seem to be advancing very much here, are you sure it’s working, or do you think this year I can hang on to a few of my own dollars and spent it, wisely, on my own?

A New Year, A New District, Same Old Republican Antics

With each New Year we find ourselves reflecting on the past and setting goals for the coming year. 

2011 was a year of tragically partisan politics in DC. The new Republican majority made it clear that fulfilling their backward social agenda was more important than putting Americans back to work. Rather than advancing any legislation that would continue the American recovery, they spent the entire year trying to roll back health care reform, proposing changes to Medicare and Social Security that would effectively end both programs as we know them, and manipulating the facts, trying to convince Americans that common sense environmental protections are hurting the economy.

As we enter into 2012 I re-new my commitment to you that I will continue to fight to protect Social Security and Medicare and stand strong against the Tea Party controlled Republican leadership. Most importantly, I, along with my Democratic colleagues, will work to implement our Make it in America agenda to put Americans back to work and ensure a sustainable recovery for our American economy.

2012 promises to be a year of many changes.

Some of these changes were made clear last week when the new boundaries of our Congressional districts were finalized. I continue to be disappointed that New Jersey lost a Congressional seat.  We must not forget the lesson learned from this census  and continue to fight for an accurate count looking forward to the 2020 census. 

The new map poses challenges for our Party, but I am committed to my service to the residents of the 6th district and am eager to get to work. I am saddened that the new map moved towns that I am proud to represent into other districts, but am excited at the opportunity to introduce myself to residents of newly included towns, earn their votes and represent them in the new Congress. 

We will be hitting the ground running with my 2012 campaign and I ask that you take a minute to sign up here to get involved. There is plenty of work to be done and, with your help, I have no doubt that we will celebrate a tremendous victory for our party in November, when we re-elect President Obama, re-elect Senator Menendez,  regain a  Democratic majority in the House and win offices throughout our state, county and local governments. 

Thank you for you help in 2011 – your efforts for resulted in solid victories for the Democratic Party in the legislative elections, sending a clear message to Governor Christie, and a reminder to anyone who doubted it, that New Jersey is a Blue State. Let’s continue the hard work and move to even more victories in 2012.
